Through the furniture creations of the greatest names in architecture of the past sixty years, this exhibition sets out to discover how architects fit into the decorative arts with the design of furniture, objects and luminaires.
For 150 years, architects have designed furniture and lighting to complete their constructions. Unlike the furniture of their predecessors in the Vienna Secession, Art Deco, Bauhaus or the Modern Movement, the furniture designed by architects from 1960 to the present day has rarely been studied until now.
For the first time, an exhibition is displayed throughout the entire Cité, reaching the permanent collections and the library and opens out a dialogue between the pieces and the museums's collections, revealing what makes architect furniture specific and original.
Through prototypes, single pieces, limited edition or mass productions laid out around the whole Cité, the exhibition invites visitors to discover the furniture production of architects from the 1960's to the present day.
With near 300 pieces, and more than 125 architects and nearly 90 editors represented this exhibition is an invitation to take a stroll through the Cité, discovering the furniture creations of great figures and personalities in architecutre in the last decades : David Adjaye, Ron Arad, Shigeru Ban, David Chipperfield, Odile Decq, Charles & Ray Eames, Norman Foster, Sou Fujimoto, Franck Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Marc Held, Steven Holl, Toyo Ito, Jakob + MacFarlane, Michele de Lucchi, Angelo Mangiarotti, Jean Nouvel, Verner Panton, Dominique Perrault, Gaetano Pesce, Rudy Ricciotti, Aldo Rossi, Sanaa, Superstudio, Carlo Scarpa, Ettore Sottsass...
